California Caramel Nuggets

 


Raisin-caramel nuggets drizzled with a brown butter icing.
INGREDIENTS
1 cup California raisins
1 cup walnuts
1 cup butter or margarine
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
Brown Butter Icing
1/3 cup butter
3 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
PROCEDURE
Chop raisins and walnuts; set aside. Cream butter, brown sugar and vanilla until light. Sift flour and salt; add to creamed mixture, blending well. Stir in raisins and walnuts. Spread into greased 13x9-inch pan. Bake at 350°F for 20 to 25 minutes. Do not overbake; crust should be slightly soft.
Meanwhile, stir butter over medium heat until light brown; cool slightly. Add powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Cool bars and frost.
